About Bark & Burr

A bit about me…

I have always been interested in the natural beauty of wood and what can be made from it, so it was an obvious progression after leaving school to embark upon an apprenticeship with one of the best kitchen and furniture makers in Cheshire.

After completing my apprenticeship I decided to ‘branch out’ (no pun intended!) on my own. Bark and Burr was born in a humble workshop, but it was enough to start making the rustic chopping and serving boards that any kitchen would be proud of.

We now call a much bigger workshop home, where we make bespoke freestanding and fitted furniture along side out beautiful boards and bowls, maintaining the same ethos and quality throughout. If you are interested in commissioning a piece of furniture please visit our other website for more details

A bit about the wood…

All the wood used for our boards and bowls is sourced as locally as possible. We hand select wood at a local sawmill in the heart of the Cheshire countryside. We always select the finest quality, waney (natural) edged English timber. All the wood we use for the boards is fully seasoned and kiln dried.

The timber we use for our bowls is always a single piece of local wood, often air dried only. This allows us to turn finer edged bowls and this in turn means the bowls can move and change shape as they fully dry. Every bowl is a one of a kind.
